The Context:
The boys had not made a nashta plan in some time and due to the horrible weather we decided for a restaurant with air conditioning instead of our typical outdoor Quetta experience.
The Order:
- 3 Egg Omelette - Steak & Cheese
- Butler's Signature Hot Chocolate - Milk
Review
Honestly, great experience. The food was amazing, the environment is nice. I like that it's all glass walls so a lot of natural light comes in. The breakfast that I ordered came with the following items
- An omelette with cheese and pieces of steak in it
- A serving of spinach + mushrooms
- A triangular piece of hashbrowns
- A piece of bread cut into four triangles + butter
- A small plate of beans
- Half a tomato for some reason? It cost 1550 off the gate and the hot chocolate was 950 itself. With such a price tag, it's best to not think of the price and the ambiance. If it wasn't top notch then you're just getting ripped off. Regardless of whatever they d0, 2500 a piece (pre-tax) for a breakfast is a a point where you're just there for a hopefully good experience. There can't do anything that will make you feel you've gotten an amazing deal. Regardless, the company was amazing, sat there for a few hours and left in the afternoon. I felt full enough that I skipped lunch that day too.
A note on posh restaurants:
I never feel like I belong in these places and neither do I want myself to feel that way. I've been to Butler's once before and during that time I was letting myself get 'pseudo-uncomfortable' by nagging myself that this isn't normal for you and neither should it. This resulted in me not enjoying myself and even though I had an amazing breakfast (Acai Smoothie Bowl, that later inspired me to make my own smoothie bowls at home — If a food item inspires you to make your own at home asap, you can image how good it was). When I was asked about if I liked the smoothie bowl I let said 'it's alright' because I was deliberately downsizing my experience and not letting myself be completely open. A good conversation with the boys later I allows myself to whole heartedly think about the experience and in hindsight, it was amazing. It's a blessing and a privilege to be able to afford these types of experience with people that I care about and I should not let my feeling of 'not belonging here' do a disservice to a potentially amazing experience.
Final Verdict - 4/5
Posh restaurant with expensive items does good food, who would have guessed. At this price point if you're not nailing food, service & ambiance to a 4/5 star level each, the restaurant is probably on its way to shutting down.
P.S. With posh restaurants there's a flattening of the curve that comes as the restaurant gets more and more expensive. The growth is no longer linear. i.e. a 1200 burger and a 1500 burger is likely to be the same quality and taste if not they'd have a marginal difference. Still, I would like to explore high end restaurants once in a while and see which one offers the best experience that's at least somewhat worthy of the money spend.
